Grandma always said eating french fries caused my acne!

Let’s face it, acne is real and it can affect anyone!  Men, women, teens, acne is not just for the “chosen few”.  We can encounter acne at different seasons of our lives for various reasons.  Excess oil on our skin, dirty and clogged pores, stress, and yes, even hormones.  Fries…not so much.

We can’t always avoid an occasional pimple or a full blown breakout, but there are a few relatively simple tips that can help us to have our best, healthiest skin possible.  Disclaimer: Depending on the severity of your acne, you may need to consult a dermatologist.  The following tips are just that, helpful tips.

Wash your face daily

Twice a day is ideal, but if you can only wash it once a day, do so each night.  It is important to remove the dirt and oils from the day.  Don’t think your face gets dirty throughout the day? Trust me, our air carries impurities that sit on your face. You may not see them, but they are there. And why wash your face in the morning when you just washed it last night?  Oils and dust from your pillow are transferred to your face as you slumber.

Change your pillowcase often

for real.  It’s true.  Our pillowcases may look clean, but they are harboring oil, dust and bacteria, all of which you do not want on your precious skin. And if you share your bed with pets or children…well, then there’s just more gunk than you could even imagine.

Hands Off!

Our fingers contain natural oils and that’s an ok thing.  But when we continuously touch our face we are adding oil to our facial skin.  It can potentially lead to clogged or plugged up follicles, increasing the chance of a breakout.

Makeup Brushes

Using makeup brushes rather than your fingers can be beneficial for many reasons! One, it’s easier to apply foundation and you get a more natural look.  Secondly, as long as your brushes are clean, you are depositing less dirt, oil, and bacteria than you would if you used your fingers.  And as far as keeping those brushes clean… we have a fabulous brush cleaner you can try risk free.  Click here.

Remove makeup before cleaning face

Want really clean skin?  Don’t just wash it and think you’re done.  Remove makeup first, THEN cleanse using a gentle cleanser. Your skin will be forever grateful. You can check out our makeup remover here…it’s kinda the bomb!

Stick to an amazing skin care line

Choose an awesome skin care line and use it!  If you choose different brands for different aspects of your skin care routine, you are likely to get mixed results.  Many lines are “built” as a system and work best together, rather than a hodge podge of different brands.  Be aware that there is often an adjustment period when starting a new skin care routine.  You may even experience a small breakout.  Do NOT be alarmed, your skin is just getting rid of the gunk that has been trapped inside your skin.  Persevere…it is worth it!

Moisturize

Quite often I hear people say that they don’t want to have a moisturizer because their skin type is oily.  This can be detrimental to the skin care routine!  While you don’t want to add extra oil to the skin that you’ve just cleansed, you DO, however, need to add moisture and hydration.  A quality moisturizer helps to keep skin flexible and soft.
